KHPT Origination
Introduction:
Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT) was set up as a partnership between Karnataka state AIDS prevention society (KSAPS) and the, Canada in the year 2003. KHPT focuses on supporting and implementing initiatives related to HIV/AIDS and reproductive health.
Currently KHPT is engaged in the following initiatives-
· Sankalp
· Corridors
· Samastha
Nature of Work and What is they taken project? What they are doing?
Sankalp: The Sankalp project for up scaling the HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control Programme in Karnataka: KHPT is the State Lead Partner in Karnataka for Avahan, the India AIDS initiative of the Bill and Melinda gates foundation. KHPT is implementing the Avahan-funded, Sankalp project for up scaling the HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control Programme in the State.Through Sankalp, KHPT has successfully integrated the Gates-funded project with the State’s HIV and AIDS programme. Sankalp focuses on HIV Prevention among vulnerable populations like women in sex work and high-risk men in 18 districts of Karnataka in close partnership with other NGO.
Corridors:
The Corridors Project for HIV prevention among mobile sex workers and men at risk in the border districts of the neighbor States of Karnataka and Maharashtra: and funded by Avahan – the India AIDS Initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Corridors Project is being implemented in an area encompassing several largely rural districts along the border between northern Karnataka and southern Maharashtra. The overall project goal of the Corridors Project is to reduce the transmission of STI and HIV in the context of sex work
Samastha:
This 5 year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development seeks to address HIV and AIDS prevention, care, support and treatment services to vulnerable and affected populations in selected areas of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The overall goal of Samastha Project is to develop a comprehensive programme that provides HIV and AIDS prevention, care, support and treatment to vulnerable and affected populations in 12 high prevalence districts in Karnataka and in four coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh.
