Report on Gender
Introduction
On April 1, 2009, at 9:00 AM, Shahina came to class. She was cohort-1st follow. Now she is working in Bangalore. She talked about Gender. But many of the people thinking that gender is a male and female but this is totally wrong perception. Then she told that, ‘Gender refers to the array of socially constructed roles and relationship, personality traits, attitudes relative powers and influence that society ascribes to the two sexes on a differential basis. This gender discrimination is not only in India but this is present all over the world, only it varies from country to country culture to culture and race to race.’
Module Description
We are not born with gender but we learnt from the society, gender is a different meaning in different societies, cultures, races and countries. When a woman gives birth to a female child, her husband and society treat her as a cursed women. To have male or female child both wife and husband are equally responsible. But the societies blame women only.
In the afternoon she gave case study. We were studied that, If the women gives birth to female child than her husband and family members force to kill that female child due to pressure and threats to the women from her husband and family members. She kills her female child.
Than Chinn babu also told that, ‘Gender is not about women and men, but it is an all about relationship between men and women. What man can do and achieve even women is capable to achieve anything in the world but the society oppressed her not to go out from their homes.’
Than next fellows have divided into two groups, first group discussed one case study on ‘Bakul’s life’ then they presented. And Second group presented on ‘women discrimination in Afghanistan.’ After this presentation we performed drama in which boys performed women’s role and girls performed men’s role. It is very nice. I enjoyed lot. Really this module has changed my opinion regarding sex and gender. Gender is a not about women, is not about men and it is not about relate.
